Re-learn Your Smoking Triggers
How to enjoy happy hour without a cigarette...
1. For many ex-smokers alcohol was one of the toughest smoking triggers to face. Some of them tried switching to something non-alcoholic to re-learn drinking without cigarettes.
2. If you do drink alcohol, try switching to a different drink. Or go to a different bar, maybe one that allows smoking only outside. Break up the usual routine.
3. Have a beer first. And don't smoke until AFTER you're done drinking it. Wait five minutes and then have a cigarette.
4. The next time when the drink's done, wait for 10 minutes. Okay, now you can light up. Keep your other hand busy. Play with a cocktail straw. Tap your fingers. What else can you do with your hand?
5. Be careful with this whole drinking thing though. Remember, it's probably best to avoid alcohol for a while after you do quit smoking so you don't let your defenses down and slip up.
