The Post- Meal Trigger

Smoking a cigarette after a meal can be a common routine. Being dedicated to quitting smoking means breaking the old routines. Here’s how to re-learn what to do after a meal without having a cigarette. It will help you when quit day rolls around and you actually quit smoking.

1. Hold Off A Minute
When dinner is over, don’t excuse yourself for a smoke right away. Just sit. Chat if you want. Compliment the chef, especially if it was you. Just wait FIVE minutes before having a cigarette.

2. Break The Old Routine
The next time, try waiting 10 minutes. But don’t have your smoke at the table. Break up your old smoking routine and step outside for that cigarette. If you want, try some napkin origami as shown to the right. Keep delaying like this, and soon the after-dinner smoking trigger will lose some of its power.
