The Stress Trigger

Stress can affect anyone , but especially smokers who are trying to quit. Here are some steps to help you manage stress and stay committed to quitting smoking:

1.  Excuse Yourself
Remove yourself from any situation that’s making you want to smoke. Just get up and excuse yourself for a minute.

2. Breathe Deeply
If you’re unable to leave, take a few calming breaths and simply pretend you’re somewhere else. We’ve heard Fiji is nice, so go there in your mind and wait FIVE minutes to smoke “when you get back.” By not automatically lighting up at the first sign of stress, you’ll start to break the “glue” between stress and smoking.

3.  Think About The Real Problem
While you’re waiting to have that cigarette, remind yourself of this fact: Having that cigarette will not actually do ANYTHING to relieve your stress. It won’t do a THING about the real problem. So as you’re waiting to light up, think about what else you can do to actually solve the REAL problem.

4.  Make It Through
