The Drinking Trigger
Drinking can be a trigger for anyone to act a different way. Here’s how to re-learn how to be around alcohol without a cigarette. It will help you when quit day rolls around and you actually quit smoking.
1. Change Your Drink
For many ex-smokers, alcohol was THE toughest smoking trigger to face. Some of them tried switching to something nonalcoholic for a couple of weeks to re-learn drinking without cigarettes.
2. Break The Routine
If you do drink alcohol, try switching to a different drink. Or go to a different bar, maybe one that allows smoking only outside. Break up the usual routine.
3. Wait A While
Okay, go through the beer first and don’t smoke until AFTER you’re done drinking it. Later wait FIVE minutes and then have a cigarette.
4. Wait A Little Longer
The next time when the drink’s done, wait for 10 minutes. Okay, now you can light up. Keep your other hand busy. Play with a cocktail straw. Tap your fingers. What else can you do with your hand?
