When Kids Argue Trigger
Kids arguing can be a smoking trigger. Here are steps to avoid lighting up and remaining committed to quit smoking:
1. Ignore The Little Stuff
Ignore the little quarrels. As long as they aren’t hurting each other, kids grow by learning to work things out. Tell the kids to take their bickering into another room and figure it out. Put off having that cigarette.
2. Get Some Quiet Time
If the arguing continues, remind yourself that it’s their argument, not yours. Leave them alone and go to your room for some quiet time. Just put off having that cigarette for FIVE more minutes.
3. Wait ’Til You’re Calm
By the time the argument blows over (and it usually does), you can talk with them calmly. You won’t have reinforced their arguing with your attention, and you’ll have been a role model by not reaching for a cigarette to deal with your stress.
4. Drown Out The Noise
Another option is to grab a set of headphones and drown out the noise with this great free music site. Cruise online for positive things or watch entertaining videos to keep your mind off of it. Just use the headphones until the storm has passed.
